For children and young people

  • Talk Adoption – a free helpline, bulletin board and information for young people affected by adoption.

For birth relatives

  • Adoption Search and Reunion – this site is for anyone thinking about searching for or making contact with birth and adopted relatives. There’s information about recent changes to legislation, the right to make or refuse contact, finding intermediary service providers, and adoption contact registers.

For prospective adopters

  • Adoption Information Line – provides advice and information to the general public.

  • Adoption Library – Adoption Learning and Development working with Nottinghamshire Libraries haved put an extensive collection of books and resources on adoption and childcare in local libraries around Nottinghamshire. All Nottinghamshire adopters receive a card which entitles them to reserve any book or resource in the collection - free of charge. Anyone who is a Nottinghamshire adopter or prospective adopter and hasn’t received a letter and peel out card, please contact Rachael Ellis on email: adoption.learning@nottscc.gov.uk.

  • Adoption UK – organisation run by and for adoptive parents to provide "support to adoptive families before, during and after adoption". Contains articles and recent news from the perspective of adopters.

  • BAAF Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) – provides information about developments in the world of adoption as well as loads more useful links

  • Be My Parent – Family-finding service aimed at prospective adopters and foster carers and includes profiles, photographs and videos of UK children waiting for new families as well as general information on becoming an adoptive parent

  • Independent Review Mechanism (IRM) – IRM panels are independent panels that prospective adopters can refer themselves to if their agency is intending not to approve them as suitable to adopt or intending to withdraw their approval against their wishes.   • National Adoption Register – the register is operated by BAAF.
