Cotgrave Country Park is located on the northern edge of the Nottinghamshire town of Cotgrave, some eight miles (12 km) by road from Nottingham city centre.

How to find us

Follow signs to Cotgrave from the A52, A606 or A46. Car access to the park is via Hollygate Lane. The nearest postcode is NG12 3HE. There is also pedestrian access from Colliery Lane.

Parking and facilities

The park is open from dawn until dusk. Parking for the Country Park is at the Hollygate Lane entrance.

Parking is free. There is a height barrier of 2.15 metres at the entrance to the car park.

There is bench seating at various locations around the park. At present there are no toilets or bad weather shelters at the park.

Dogs are welcome in the park but please keep them under control and clean up after your pet. Dog bins are available.

Events and attractions

The park is a great place to get away from it all in a relaxed and open green setting. The site includes woodland, wetland, lakes and informal grassland, and part of Grantham canal runs through the park.

With around five kilometres of paths and trails, there are plenty of different routes for gentle or brisk walks, jogging, running or cycling. There is also an extensive orienteering course, for which a free leaflet is available on request.

Most paths are stone surfaced and suitable for walkers, wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs, but please be aware that some of the lower lying paths may get wet and muddy during spells of bad weather.

There's a wide variety of natural habitats at Cotgrave Country Park, including the lovely Heron Lake, conservation areas and a Nature Trail. There is also a horse riding trail of approximately 1.3 km around the edge of the site, with sections of surfaced gallops.

The fishing rights of Heron Lake are leased to the Cotgrave Diamond Angling Club. For more information please contact the Secretary on tel: 07748 606 882.

Join our volunteers

The park holds regular volunteer days so why not come along and lend a hand with useful conservation work or park management tasks? No experience is needed and we will provide training, equipment and refreshments.

The Friends of Cotgrave Country Park is a local supporters' group. Members meet in Cotgrave to discuss issues concerning the park, its users, wildlife and local community.

To find out more about volunteering or the Friends Group please contact Lee Scudder on tel: 01623 827 325 or email: lee.scudder@nottscc.gov.uk
