Guided cycle rides
Rural Rides is a programme of guided cycle rides delivered by Ridewise. Following quiet lanes and off-road routes at a leisurely pace, there are frequent stops to take in points of interest or just to admire the view.
Cycle routes
Transport Direct's cycle journey planner allows you to select the quickest, quietest or even the most recreational cycle route to your destination. It will give you detailed route directions, a map and a visual representation of the steepness of the route. Once you find a route you're happy with, you can download a GPX file that can be used with your GPS device.
You can download guides to several key routes below. If you find they are too big to print out, you can also contact us to request a copy.
Dukeries Trail
A 32 mile route starting in Shirebrook in the west, running through the three counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire and ending in the east, in the heart of Lincoln. Erewash Valley Trail

Ashfield and Mansfield Trails
This network of trails links National Cycle Route 6 at Sherwood Pines to the Phoenix Greenways in Derbyshire running through Rainworth, Mansfield, Sutton in Ashfield and Pleasley
National Byway
Mostly on road, with some busy A-road sections, the National Byway is suitable for more experienced cyclists.
National Cycle Network
Part of the National Cycle Network runs through Nottinghamshire. Route 6 runs from Nottingham to Worksop or Derby, Route 64 from Bingham to Lincoln and Route 15 from Nottingham to Bingham.
Routes through parks/scenic areas
Some of Nottinghamshire's parks have dedicated cycle routes or longer networks of paths that would make a pleasant bike ride.

Clumber Park has a large path network.

Sherwood Pines has woodland paths as well as a mountain bike tracks.

Rushcliffe County Park has a trails bike run.

The Big Track is a 10 mile waterside car-free route that starts in Nottingham and runs to Attenborough Nature Reserve, where it links to the Erewash Valley Trail.

Bestwood Country Park is also great for cycling.

The Grantham Canal is owned by British Waterways and runs through the lovely Vale of Belvoir. The towpath is available for cycling from the edge of Nottingham to the canal terminus. Please cycle with great care and courtesy to others, observing the Waterways Code for Cyclists. You must display a valid British Waterways cycling permit on your cycle at all times, which you can download free of charge.
