West Bridgford Library and Young People's Centre

On its opening weekend, around 8,000 people visited the new library, four times the level expected for a normal weekend.

The flagship West Bridgford Library development is the latest in the county council’s plan to continue to invest, develop and remodel its existing libraries to be able to continue to serve traditional library users and meet the demand for digital services and reach out to new audiences.

Getting ready

As the opening date approached, library staff were busy getting the library ready.

What's new?

Among the improvements you will find in the new library are:

• a dedicated children's area
• two floors filled with book
• local studies area
  
• free use of computers, internet and wi-fi
• Shopmobility service
  
• Registrar's Office
• solar panels on the roof which will help save over 12 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
• and it will be fully accessible.

The building has also received an "A rating" for energy efficiency [PDF].

Young people's centre

The re-developed building also includes a new young people's centre which will include:

• a fantastic meeting place
• recording studio
• performance area
• dance area.

The young people's centre hosts a wide range of events for 13-19 year olds throughout the week:

• Mondays: Rock School, 6.30pm-9.30pm
• Tuesdays: Urban Night, 6.30pm-9.30pm
• Wednesdays: Disability Support, 6.45pm - 9.15pm
• Thursdays: Trentside Plus, 6.45pm - 9.15pm
• Fridays: Chill Out Night, 6.15pm - 9.15pm
• Saturdays: YPs café and Peer Project, 11.30am - 4.30pm
