Changing school

Transferring school

If you are thinking about changing your child's school you should first speak to your child's head teacher. If, after a discussion with the head teacher, you feel that a transfer is the best option, download and complete the in-year application form [PDF].

Places are approved by the Local Authority for community and controlled schools, and the governing body for academy, voluntary aided and foundation schools.

If your request is refused the Local Authority will write, giving reasons for the refusal and information about how to appeal.

Moving house

If you move house during the school year and you want to change your child's school, download and complete the in-year application form [PDF].

Please note that moving into the catchment area of a school will not guarantee your child a place at that school.

If you move house within Nottinghamshire and you want your child to stay at their current school, they may do so although you may not be eligible for help with any transport costs. It is important, therefore, that you consider transport to school and check your entitlement.
