Waste Permits

Permit Scheme Information

Information icon

The permit system was introduced because of issues including the illegal disposal of trade waste.

Permits have been available since January 2009 and the scheme has been enforced since March 2009.

The system was expanded to include sign written vehicles in December 2009 and this has been enforced from 11 January 2010.

Permits are only valid for individuals to dispose of their own household waste and small amounts of construction waste from their own home. They are not for the disposal of anybody else’s waste or for the disposal of any type of business/trade waste.

Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) is used to monitor the HWRCs and we reserve the right to make further enquiries to the owner of the vehicle or at the premises from which the waste originated. Your details may be passed onto the relevant enforcement authorities.

Abuse of a permit will lead to it being withdrawn.

If you wish to use a van, pick-up or trailer to take your own waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) you will need to apply for a permit.

You do not need a permit if you are using your own car without a trailer to take waste to a HWRC.
