Types of groups
Nottinghamshire County Council recognises the need for some employees to attend and run staff groups.
These groups are both a support network for employees and a consultation network for reviewing county council policies and services especially through equality impact assessments.
They report to the Corporate Equality Group and work with equality officers on our Equality Plan.
Black Workers’ Support Group
The Black Workers’ Support Group was formed in 2007 when 5 departmental black workers’ groups amalgamated.
The black workers’ groups have had a long successful history in the council since 1980.
The group influences the policy changes needed to improve council services affecting the black and minority ethnic communities.
Disabled Workers’ Group
Disabled employees of Nottinghamshire County Council who have a disability under the definition in the Disability Discrimination Act are entitled to attend group meetings.
The group was established in 1989 and over the years has been involved in:
- Being a sounding board
- Involvement with county council policies
- Providing mutual support.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Group
Formed in 2001, this group is open to all Nottinghamshire County Council employees who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans. The aims of the group are to:
- Support all LGBT employees on matters relating to employment
- Raise the profile of LGBT employees and challenge discrimination in the workforce on grounds of sexuality
- Advise management on the development of Council policies
- Offer advice and guidance on employment rights.
